Frank Juarez: Art Educator and Abstract Painter

August 22, 2008

I will be exhibiting in my first solo exhibition titled "Pursuit of Self-Identity" at the Z Spot Espresso & Coffee. I am excited to show 11 paintings that were created during this summer (2008). The exhibition will run from August 24 through October 5, 2008 with an artist reception scheduled for Sunday, September 14 from 3 to 6 PM.

"After eight years of experimentation and exploration I finally discovered which road I would like to pursue as an artist---abstraction. I feel comfortable going through the creative process and taking risks with a new medium, oil paint, that I am learning to appreciate".

About Frank Juarez

Frank received his Bachelor of Science with an emphasis on Commercial Art and his teaching certificate from Carroll College in 1997 and 2001 respectively. In 2004, he earned his Masters in Educational Leadership from Marian College. Currently, he is the art department chair and art teacher at Sheboygan North High School.

Along with being an art teacher, he has been actively involved in local and state art organizations such as the Milwaukee Area Teachers of Art (MATA) and the Wisconsin Art Education Association (WAEA), had held executive board positions in both and is a former Milwaukee gallery Co-owner.

Frank continues to exhibit his paintings locally. In the summer of 2007 he founded The Sheboygan Visual Artists (SVA).

I recently got a commission to do a 8' x 8'  abstract painting. I have done a 4' x 8' painting a few years back and for some reason did not seem big. However, when I went to Utrecht to pick up some supplies I roamed to the stretcher bar area and took the liberty to see how big this commission piece would truly be. It is huge!

This commission piece is from a couple that have bought two previous paintings from me in the past year. Luckily, I have access to a great space to create such a big painting. This is going to be an awesome project. Stay tuned for more details in the next couple of weeks.

I emailed the buyer some images of some proposed sketches. Now, I wait to hear from her.

I will be part of a group exhibition hosted by the Milwaukee Area Teachers of Art at the Reuss Federal Plaza located on the corner of 3rd and Old Third Ward in Milwaukee. I will be hanging a piece titled, "PLUSH", 24" x 36", oil on canvas.

Next Friday, September 26 The Sheboygan Visual Artists will be hosting their first Final Fridays at EBCO Artworks. EBCO Artworks is located at 1201 Erie Avenue in Sheboygan, WI. To view detailed information visit www.sheboyganvisualartists.com. There is a press release on SVA's homepage.

We hope you can make this. This event is the official launch of an entire series devoted to empower visual artists through professional development and collaboration, to create opportunities for the community to experience and enjoy the visual arts and to promote the member artists and their work.

I have a new painting titled,"PLUSH" at the Reuss Federal Plaza. The Reuss is located on the corner of 3rd and Old Third Street directly in front of the Grand Avenue Mall. This piece will be on exhibit until November 7, 2008. There is no reception for this exhibit.

The new commission is slowly progressing. With a tight schedule maintaining my professional career, co-organizing a huge art conference coming to beautiful Sheboygan (www.2008sheboyganfallconferece.com), the Sheboygan Visual Artists, organizing fundraisers for group of art students I am taking to NY in March 2009, and moving to a new studio time is a bit limited. I am currently in step 2 of this commission. I am happy to report that the new buyers are extremely excited about the preliminary sketch I provided them with.

If you missed my solo exhibition at the Z Spot in Sheboygan, no worries. I have moved this body of work to URBANE, corner of 8th & Michigan Avenue in Sheboygan. I have excluded three pieces, "When I Dream", "Taste", and "Steady Slow". This current exhibition features a body of abstract work. This exhibition will be up until the end of December. Obviously if are reading this blog then you have my website, but just in case it is www.pacojuarez.com.

I finally moved into a new studio, which is twice as big as my old studio. There is a buzzing sound coming from one of the transformers so I will need to drown out the sound. Pictures to come soon. Tonight I picked up my customized stretcher bars from Charlie. Tomorrow I will go back to the studio and begin prepping my canvas.
